Precision Air was founded in 1993. It began as a private charter air transport company operating a five-seat Piper Aztec aircraft. Its initial activity mainly consisted of providing connections to tourists visiting the rich natural attractions of Serengeti National Park, the Ngorongoro Crater in northern Tanzania, the island of Zanzibar in the Indian Ocean, and other parts of the country, with its base in the city of Arusha.
The large size of Tanzania, along with the growing demand for air transport services as the country began adopting a free-market economy, soon led Precision Air to operate scheduled flights, keeping Arusha as its operational center.
The first scheduled flights were operated using a seven-seat single-engine Cessna 207, a seven-seat Cessna 402, two eleven-seat Cessna 404s, and a nineteen-seat LET 410, until the mid-1990s when the airline added larger and more comfortable ATR aircraft to its fleet.
